The Aquincum Castrum in Budapest comprises the well-preserved remains of a Roman military fort that formed part of the ancient city of Aquincum on the Danubian Pannonian frontier. Established in the early Imperial era and developed through the 1st–3rd centuries AD, the castrum hosted a garrison whose stone walls, gates, bath complexes and building foundations illustrate Roman military engineering and urban organisation. The archaeological ensemble is accompanied by a museum exhibiting mosaics, inscriptions, sculptures and everyday objects that illuminate both military and civilian life. Aquincum is culturally significant as a focal point of Roman presence in Central Europe and as an enduring element in the region’s historical identity. Practical arrangements such as opening times, admission conditions and accessibility provisions are determined by the managing institution and may change; ongoing research and conservation continue to expand understanding of the site.
