The Piccolomini Library is a monumental space located within the Cathedral of Siena, commissioned in 1492 by Cardinal Francesco Piccolomini Todeschini, who later became Pope Pius III. The library was designed to house the extensive collection of books gathered by his uncle, Pope Pius II. Between 1502 and 1507, the interiors were adorned with vibrant frescoes by the renowned painter Pinturicchio and his assistants, including the young Raphael. Notable features include depictions of the life of Pius II, rich architectural details, and exquisite period furnishings. The library symbolizes the cultural revival during the Renaissance and offers insight into the historical significance of the Piccolomini family.
