Rocca di Montestaffoli is a medieval fortress built in the 14th century located in San Gimignano. Originally, the site housed a castle belonging to the bishop of Volterra, which served as an economic hub due to commerce along nearby trade routes. The current structure was constructed by the Florentines in 1353 after the locals sought protection from internal strife and plagues. Over the centuries, it fell into disrepair but was restored in the 20th century. Today, it stands as a notable landmark featuring only its walls, which serve as a backdrop for summer performances and contemporary art installations, reflecting its cultural relevance.
