The Black Rock, also known as the Irish Commemorative Stone, is a monument in Pointe-Saint-Charles, Montreal, Quebec. It commemorates the deaths of 6,000 Irish immigrants who succumbed to "ship fever" (typhoid) during the immigration wave following the Great Irish Famine in 1847-1848. Erected in 1859, it was the first Canadian monument to represent the famine. The stone signifies a significant historical event and is a focal point for the Montreal Irish community, who annually walk to the site to honor those who lost their lives. The monument's relocation and restoration over the years have added to its cultural and emotional significance.
