The Giardino delle Rose, or Rose Garden, is a beautiful public park located in Florence, Italy, specifically in the Oltrarno area beneath the iconic Piazzale Michelangelo. Established in 1865 by architect Giuseppe Poggi, the garden was originally part of a property known as the "Podere di San Francesco." It spans approximately one hectare and features terraced landscaping that provides stunning panoramic views of Florence.
The garden is home to around 1,000 botanical varieties, including 350 species of ancient roses, making it a haven for horticulture enthusiasts. Open year-round (except on Christmas and New Year's Day), visitors can enjoy the garden from 9 AM until sunset.
In addition to its rich floral displays, the garden has cultural significance. It features a Japanese oasis donated by Kyoto, a sister city of Florence, and includes ten bronze sculptures by Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon, which were added in 2011. The Giardino delle Rose offers a serene environment for relaxation and reflection, making it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Florence.
