The Lateran Obelisk, located in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano, is the tallest ancient obelisk in Rome, standing at 32.18 meters (45.70 meters including its base and cross). Originally erected in Egypt during the reigns of Pharaohs Thutmose III and IV in the 15th century BC, it was transported to Rome by Emperor Constantius II in 357 AD. The obelisk is a significant historical monument and a testament to Roman engineering. Visitors can admire its grandeur while exploring the surrounding area, which includes the Basilica of St. John Lateran. The obelisk is accessible year-round, and there is no admission fee.
