The Cloître des Jacobins in Toulouse is the preserved cloister of the Dominican convent founded in the 13th century, notable for its brick Gothic architecture, slender columnar vaulting and richly carved capitals. Together with the adjoining church it forms a rare ensemble that illustrates mendicant-order architecture in southern France. The site contains medieval art and important relics associated with Saint Thomas Aquinas and has long been a place of contemplation, scholarship and community ritual; it is classified as a French historic monument. Key attractions include the arcaded cloister and garden, the chapter house, and the church’s celebrated “palm” column and choir. The monument is open to the public on established schedules and may host temporary exhibitions and concerts; some areas can be accessed free of charge while others require a modest admission. Accessibility is partial, with measures for visitors with reduced mobility but with limitations typical of medieval buildings.
