Küçük Ayasofya Camii, known as the “Little Hagia Sophia,” is a prominent sixth‑century monument in Istanbul, originally erected as the Byzantine Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus under Emperor Justinian. Later adapted as a mosque during the Ottoman period, the building exemplifies an early Byzantine central‑plan design that influenced the larger Hagia Sophia. Its compact domed nave, alternating bands of brick and stone, repurposed classical columns and surviving decorative fragments reveal a long history of religious and artistic continuity. Located in the historic Sultanahmet quarter, the structure bears significance for both Christian and Muslim cultural memory and illustrates the city’s layered urban development. Key architectural attractions include the well‑proportioned dome, interior detailing and exterior façades that attest to craftsmanship and adaptation across successive eras.
