Plaza de Pedro Velarde, also known as Plaza Porticada, is a central and bustling square in Santander, Spain, built in neoclassical style after the devastating fire of 1941. Inaugurated in 1950, it was designed by architects Javier González de Riancho, Rafael Huidobro, and Valentín del Noval. The square features a statue of Pedro Velarde, a Cantabrian hero of the Spanish War of Independence, along with two monumental sculptures representing "The Savings" and "The Charity". The plaza, which underwent a major renovation in 2006, is now a pedestrian area that hosts cultural events and social gatherings. A visitor can explore the nearby Interpretation Center of the Wall, showcasing archaeological remains. Admission is free for the center with advance booking. The square is accessible, making it suitable for all visitors.
