The City Walls of York are a remarkable historic fortification that has defended the city since Roman times. Dating back to around 71 AD, substantial portions of these walls remain intact, making them the longest town walls in England. Visitors can walk along the walls and enjoy panoramic views of the city, including landmarks like York Minster. The walls include several notable structures, such as the Multangular Tower and four main gatehouses known as bars, that highlight York's rich history. The walls are not only a symbol of York's heritage but also a scheduled ancient monument and a Grade I listed building.
