The Chiesa di Santa Lucia is a notable Christian place of worship located in the Galluzzo district of Florence, Italy. Originally established as a Catholic church, it now also serves as a parish for the Romanian Orthodox community since November 2015. The church is documented to date back to the 12th century and was under the patronage of the Florentine Cathedral Chapter and later the Petribuoni-Fastelli family.
Throughout its history, the church has undergone significant renovations, particularly in the 19th century, and was restored after World War I by architect Caldini, being consecrated in 1930. Notable architectural features include two bells from the 14th century, a mosaic above the entrance depicting Saint Lucia of Syracuse, and a distinctive trifora rose window.
As the population of the area grew, a new church dedicated to Saint Joseph and Saint Lucia was built nearby, consecrated in 1962, to accommodate the community's needs. The Chiesa di Santa Lucia serves not only as a religious site but also as an important cultural landmark within the historical context of Florence. Visitors can appreciate its rich history and architectural details, contributing to the area's cultural heritage.
