Hősök tere, or Heroes' Square, is one of Budapest's most iconic landmarks, located at the end of Andrássy Avenue. Established in 1896, it commemorates the 1000th anniversary of the Magyar conquest of the Carpathian Basin. The centerpiece is the Millenniumi emlékmű, a 36-meter tall column topped by the statue of Archangel Gabriel, surrounded by statues of the Seven Chieftains of the Magyars. The square is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is a hub for cultural events, protests, and gatherings. It is easily accessible by public transport, with a metro station located nearby. Admission is free, making it an ideal destination for tourists. The square is open year-round, and visitors can enjoy the surrounding museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Art.
