The Obelisco Matteiano, located in Villa Celimontana, is one of the thirteen ancient obelisks in Rome. Dating back to the time of Pharaoh Ramses II, this fragmentary obelisk was erected in the villa's gardens in 1820. It originally came from the Temple of Isis in Campo Marzio and was later moved to its current location after being donated to Ciriaco Mattei in 1582. The obelisk stands at 12.23 meters tall, including its base and globe. Visitors can explore the beautiful gardens of Villa Celimontana and appreciate this historical monument. The villa is open to the public, and there is no admission fee. Accessible by public transport, it is a must-visit for those interested in ancient history and architecture.
