Bethesda Terrace, in New York City's Central Park near the lake and Bow Bridge, is a 19th‑century architectural centrepiece designed by Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould. Its signature feature is the Bethesda Fountain, crowned by Emma Stebbins' "Angel of the Waters" (1873), and the two‑level terrace linked by an arcade adorned with original Minton tilework. Historically and culturally, the terrace has served as a social and performance hub, appearing in films, concerts and civic events, and reflecting Central Park's 19th‑century urban‑landscape ideals. Key attractions include the fountain, the ornate arcade ceiling, panoramic park views and nearby promenades. As part of the public park, the terrace is generally open to visitors without an admission charge and is served by accessible paths and facilities designed to accommodate many mobility needs.
