The Colonna dell'Abbondanza, also known as the Column of Abundance, is located in Piazza della Repubblica in Florence, Italy. This column has a rich historical significance, as it stands at a site that was once the heart of the Roman city of Florentia, where the cardo and decumano intersected. Originally, a Roman column existed at this location, but it was lost to time. The current column was erected in 1430, topped with a statue of 'Dovizia' created by Donatello, made of pietra serena. Due to wear and damage, this original statue was replaced in 1721 by a similar work by Giovan Battista Foggini. Over the years, the column underwent various changes and relocations. In 1884, it was dismantled after the statue was damaged, and the pieces were stored away. It wasn't until 1956 that the column was restored to its original location with a replica statue made by Mario Moschi, while the original was placed in the Museo Nazionale di San Marco.
