The Cathedral of San Martino is the principal church of Lucca and an important historical monument. Traditionally believed to be founded by Saint Frediano in the 6th century, it underwent significant reconstruction during the episcopate of Anselmo da Baggio around the 11th century, culminating in a Romanesque style full of rich decorations. Visitors can admire its stunning facade, unique portico, and intricate sculptures. The interior features a Latin cross layout with remarkable artwork, including works by Matteo Civitali. The cathedral also holds cultural significance as a pilgrimage site along the Via Francigena.
