Fatih Mosque in Istanbul’s Fatih district was commissioned by Sultan Mehmed II after the 1453 conquest of Constantinople and originally constructed in the 15th century as the focal point of an imperial külliye. The complex historically included a medrese, library, charitable kitchens and the tomb of Mehmed II; over centuries earthquakes and rebuilding have altered its fabric, and the present mosque largely reflects later reconstruction phases. As a major example of Ottoman imperial architecture, it carries deep cultural and religious significance, combining a monumental dome and minarets with interior decorative elements and imperial mausolea. Key attractions are the courtyard, the main prayer hall, the mausolea and remnants of the surrounding külliye. The mosque is generally open to visitors outside prayer times, often without a substantial admission charge; accessibility can be limited by historic steps and uneven surfaces, though partial accommodations may exist.
