Adalar, İstanbul, Marmara Bölgesi, Türkiye
The Adalar (Prince's Islands) are a cluster of nine mostly car‑free islands in the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul. Historically used as places of exile in Byzantine times and later as Ottoman summer retreats, the islands preserve well‑kept wooden mansions, monasteries and a layered religious and cultural heritage reflecting Greek, Armenian, Jewish and Turkish communities. Key attractions include the larger islands Büyükada and Heybeliada with pine‑covered hills, seaside promenades, historic houses, Aya Yorgi hill and the Halki theological school, along with quieter coves and beaches. Access is by sea; the islands are largely pedestrianized with bicycles and limited vehicles, and many historic paths are steep or cobbled. Individual museums and sites maintain their own opening hours and admission arrangements, and accessibility varies by island and location.
