Located within the historic Ksar/Kasbah of Ouarzazate, the Old Synagogue is a former Jewish Berber community site now functioning as a small, privately run museum that preserves Jewish Berber heritage. Managed by a family with Berber Jewish roots, it houses a dense collection of artifacts and photographs — including a Torah scroll, hanukkiyahs, ceremonial objects, jewelry and domestic items — and contains rooms that once served as schoolrooms and a rabbi’s quarters. A terrace affords views over the old Kasbah. The site conveys the layered cultural history and daily life of the region’s Jewish Berber community; visitors often remark on the authenticity and variety of objects, while accounts vary regarding the depth of interpretation provided by guides and their conduct.
