The Church of Panagia Platsani, also known as the Church of the Akathist Hymn, is a historic church located in Oia, Santorini. Famous for its striking white architecture and five domes, the largest of which is painted blue, it serves as a key landmark in the village. Originally located within the Venetian Castle, the church was rebuilt in 1965 after being damaged during the 1956 earthquake. The legend surrounding the church's icon, said to have been found in the sea, adds to its cultural significance. Visitors can admire its beautiful interior, which features a richly carved wooden iconostasis and local frescoes. The church is dedicated to the Akathist Hymn, commemorating the defense of Constantinople in 626 CE. While there are no admission fees, it's recommended to respect the sacred space.
