The Aquaductus (római vízvezeték romjai) in Budapest preserves visible remains of a Roman-period water conduit associated with the ancient settlement of Aquincum in the Óbuda area. Erected during the Roman occupation of the region, the aqueduct formed part of an engineered system that supplied water to military installations and civilian neighborhoods, demonstrating advanced masonry, arches and channeling techniques. Its cultural significance lies in its testimony to Roman urban infrastructure and in the role these remains play in understanding Budapest’s layered past. Key attractions include exposed stonework and reconstructed sections, their alignment across the landscape, and complementary displays and finds shown in nearby archaeological exhibits. The site is primarily an open-air heritage ruin; visiting arrangements, admission practices and precise hours have varied over time, and accessibility is partial owing to uneven ground and some stepped sections.
