Örme Dikilitaş, commonly called the Walled Obelisk, is a masonry monument standing in the historic Hippodrome of Constantinople (today Sultanahmet, Istanbul). Erected in the medieval period and later altered, the column was once clad with metal plates and inscriptions and has endured damage and successive restorations, reflecting the city’s layered Byzantine and Ottoman past. As part of the Hippodrome ensemble — alongside the Obelisk of Theodosius and the Serpent Column — it holds cultural importance as a marker of imperial spectacle and civic memory. Positioned in an open historic square near major landmarks such as Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, it is interpreted through signage and conservation efforts. Visiting arrangements, admission and accessibility are managed locally and may vary with conservation work; the monument is generally encountered as a public outdoor landmark rather than an enclosed museum object.
