Ueno Onshi Park (上野恩賜公園) is a major historic and cultural urban park in Tokyo’s Ueno district, established in the early Meiji era on former temple land and opened to the public in 1873. It has long served as a center for arts, learning and public commemoration, hosting landmark institutions such as the Tokyo National Museum, the National Museum of Nature and Science, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Ueno Zoo, Ueno Tōshō-gū shrine and Shinobazu Pond. The park is especially noted for cherry‑blossom viewing and seasonal cultural events that reflect Tokyo’s modern and premodern heritage. The grounds are open year‑round and broadly accessible to the public; many outdoor areas are free while museums and the zoo charge admission. Paths and primary facilities provide general accessibility though historic slopes, bridges and older structures may present limitations for some visitors.
