Çemberlitaş Sütunu (the Column of Constantine) is a late Roman monumental column in Istanbul marking the site of the Forum of Constantine and the city’s establishment as imperial capital. Constructed from monumental stone drums and originally topped by a statue, it has survived fires, earthquakes and successive repairs; iron bands fitted after seismic damage give it the Turkish name "Çemberlitaş" (hooped stone). As a prominent urban landmark it embodies the layered Byzantine and Ottoman history of the city and anchors a dense archaeological and architectural neighborhood that includes historic baths, mosques and market districts. The column is primarily visible from surrounding streets and squares; there is generally public street-level viewing while adjacent archaeological areas and museums maintain separate access arrangements. Accessibility in the historic fabric is mixed, with cobbled surfaces and limited step-free routes common near the monument.
