The Porta San Miniato is a historical city gate located in Florence, Italy, specifically in the Oltrarno district, between Via San Miniato and Via Monte alle Croci. It was constructed in 1320 as part of the sixth wall circuit of Florence and is notable for its unique design, being the only city gate without a tower. Instead, soldiers would keep watch from a walkway above the gate, accessible via a staircase still visible on the inner side. The gate is adorned with two stone crests that represent the symbols of the City of Florence, adding to its cultural significance. Significant restoration efforts took place in 1996, when a wooden gate similar to the original, which had been lost in the 19th century, was reconstructed. Further restoration of the interior was completed in 2005.
