York Guildhall is a historic municipal building located in the heart of York, constructed between 1449 and 1459 as a meeting place for the city's guilds. It served as a venue for significant events, including the trial of St Margaret Clitherow and the counting of Charles I's ransom in 1647. The original structure was heavily damaged during World War II but was faithfully restored and reopened in 1960. The Guildhall is acclaimed for its architectural beauty and historical relevance, featuring a newly designed stained glass window representing various aspects of York’s history. Although meetings of the City of York Council were held here until 2017, it now serves as a center for start-up businesses, showcasing its ongoing relevance to the community.
