The Botanical Garden of Siena, covering approximately two and a half hectares, is part of the University of Siena. Established in 1784, it has evolved from an earlier medicinal plant garden dating back to the 17th century. The garden features three distinct areas: the "school," with medicinal and culinary plants; the "park," with exotic trees and shrubs; and the "podere," which includes a rock garden and ferns. Notable for its historical significance, it has undergone various enhancements over the years, including the construction of a tropical greenhouse in 1875. The collections offer a glimpse into ecological diversity, making it a valuable resource for both education and research.
