The Santorini Cable Car, known locally as Teleferico, is a vital transportation link on the island of Santorini, Greece. Completed in 1982 with funding from the Loula & Evangelos Nomikos Foundation, it was built to provide an easier alternative to the steep climb of approximately 600 steps or mule rides to Fira, the island's capital. The cable car enhances tourism by offering a scenic ascent with breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and the caldera. It supports local communities through ticket revenue and addresses ethical concerns related to animal welfare. The cable car is accessible for those with mobility challenges, making it inclusive for all visitors.
