Yenikapı Marmaray İstasyonu is a major underground rail and transfer hub on Istanbul’s Marmaray corridor, linking Europe and Asia through the Bosphorus rail tunnel. Opened with the Marmaray project in 2013, the station sits above one of Turkey’s most important archaeological excavation areas; construction revealed thousands of artifacts and dozens of ship remains spanning prehistoric, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, reshaping understanding of the city’s continuous maritime and urban history. The site juxtaposes contemporary transport infrastructure with visible layers of past settlement, and nearby displays and museum collections present finds from the dig. As an operational transit node, it serves regular commuter traffic and connects to other city lines; archaeological areas and exhibitions follow museum schedules and policies. The station was designed with modern accessibility features, and its cultural significance lies in illustrating Istanbul’s millennia‑long role as a crossroads between continents and cultures.
