Jalatlaco is a historic, colorful neighborhood on the eastern edge of Oaxaca de Juárez's city center, notable for its layered colonial-era urban fabric and living local traditions. Its contemporary cultural significance rests on a prolific street‑art scene: dozens of murals — some bold and political, others playful and whimsical — cover walls, garages, doorways and even sidewalks, with the highest concentration along Calle de Ignacio Aldama (commonly called Calle Aldama) and the adjoining side streets. Key attractions include dense public mural work, brightly painted façades and an intimate network of narrow lanes that reveal vernacular architecture. As an open public district, the area is generally accessible without an admission fee and artworks are visible from the street; however, cobblestones, steps and tight alleyways can affect physical accessibility. The neighborhood does not have a single set of official visiting hours or admission policies.
