Plaza del Dos de Mayo is a significant square in Madrid's University district, created in 1869. It commemorates the popular uprising on May 2 during the Spanish War of Independence against French occupiers. Known colloquially as "plaza del Dosde", it is surrounded by several streets and features a central garden. A notable landmark is the monumental arch that once welcomed visitors to the old Monteleón palace, which later became an artillery barracks. The square is home to a marble sculpture by Antonio Solá Llansas, depicting heroes Daoíz and Velarde, although it has suffered from vandalism. The area is vibrant with cultural activities and is accessible for visitors.
