Villa Lo Specchio - Free Audio Guide

Villa Lo Specchio is located on Via San Bonaventura in the Quaracchi area of Florence, near Peretola. This historical villa was built in the 15th century for Giovanni Rucellai, who was known for his work "Zibaldone." The design was created by the renowned architect Leon Battista Alberti. Initially praised for its beauty and extensive gardens, Villa Lo Specchio underwent significant changes over the centuries, including a period when it was reduced to a broom factory. In 1877, the Franciscan friars acquired and renovated the villa, later establishing the International Cultural and Editorial Center of the Franciscans there in 1928-1929, focusing on publications related to the history of their Order. Following the 1966 Florence flood, the villa was transferred to the University of Florence and now serves as one of the campuses for the School of Agriculture.
