The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is an art museum located in Kleinburg, Ontario, Canada, established in 1965. Originally rooted in the personal art collection of Robert and Signe McMichael, which began in 1955, the museum focuses on Canadian art, particularly works associated with the Group of Seven and Indigenous artists.
The museum's main building, designed by architect Leo Venchiarutti, spans 85,000 square feet and is situated on a picturesque 100-acre property that includes a sculpture garden and walking trails. The McMichael cemetery is located on-site, where six members of the Group of Seven are interred.
The museum's permanent collection consists of over 6,500 works, emphasizing contemporary Canadian art alongside traditional landscapes and Inuit art. Visitors can also explore the archives housing more than 100,000 drawings and prints from Canadian artists.
Open to the public since 1966, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection not only serves as a shrine to Canadian artistry but also hosts various traveling exhibitions, making it a cultural hub for art enthusiasts.
