Igreja da Memória, also known as Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Livramento e de São José, is a Baroque church located in the Ajuda neighborhood of Lisbon, Portugal. Founded by King José I in gratitude for surviving an assassination attempt in 1758, its construction began in 1760 and was completed in 1788. This church serves as the mausoleum for the Marquis of Pombal, Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo. Visitors can admire its beautiful dome, marble interiors, and significant artwork by Pedro Alexandrino de Carvalho. The church is classified as a National Monument since 1923. It is currently the headquarters of the Ordinariate Castrense of Portugal. The church is open to the public, with free admission, but visitors should check for any special events or services that might affect access.
