Porta San Marco is a historical gate from the medieval walls of Siena, known for its architectural significance. Originally built around 1325-1326 as Porta delle Maremme, it underwent refurbishment in the 16th century by Baldassarre Peruzzi. The gate features a notable round christogram of St Bernardino of Siena above its archway. Though the 19th century saw the demolition of gatehouses and the nearby Oratory of San Marco, Porta San Marco remains a remarkable example of Sienese craftsmanship and a point of cultural interest for visitors.
