Tokyo National Museum, established in 1872 and located in Ueno Park, Tokyo, is Japan’s oldest and largest museum and a central institution for the study and preservation of Japanese art and antiquities. Its extensive collections encompass prehistoric and archaeological materials, Buddhist sculpture, samurai armor, calligraphy, ceramics, lacquerware, textiles and ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
