Fonte Gaia is a monumental fountain located in the main square of Siena, Piazza del Campo. Inaugurated in 1346, it quickly became the city's most important public fountain, earning its name "Gaia" from the joy it brought to the citizens when water first flowed from it. The fountain features intricate sculptures by Jacopo della Quercia, completed in 1419, though the original sculptures are now in the Museo di Santa Maria della Scala. Visitors can admire the rich decoration depicting biblical scenes and symbolic figures, all crafted from local marble. The fountain reflects Siena's artistic heritage and serves as a vital part of the city's identity.
