In 1815, the villa was acquired by Countess Teresa Spinelli Albizi, who undertook extensive renovations, including the addition of a distinctive iron structure resembling a Chinese umbrella, which inspired the villa's name. In 1874, the villa was purchased by Russian statesman Aleksej Zubov, who expanded the estate by acquiring the adjacent Villa della Torricella, creating a vast romantic park featuring exotic plant species. In the early 20th century, the villa came under the ownership of Alice Keppel, known for her association with King Edward VII of the United Kingdom. She made significant alterations, including replacing the Torricella with a music loggia and enhancing the garden with neo-16th and 18th-century statues.
