The Porta Tufi, also known as Tufi Gate, is a historic portal in the medieval walls of Siena, dating back to 1325-1326. Attributed to the design of Agnolo di Ventura, this brick structure features three rounded arches, the central of which is made of travertine marble. The gate is notable for its decorative elements, including a relief of the IHS Christogram and an interior icon of the Madonna. Surrounding the portal are plaques indicating entry into the Contrada of Tartuca, reflecting Siena's rich contrada tradition. Historically significant, the gate served as an entry point for Enea Piccolomini and Giovanni Benedetti during a rebellion against Spanish-Florentine rule in July 1552. Visitors will find it is situated on Strada di Tufi, now Via Pier Andrea Mattioli, providing a glimpse into Siena's medieval architecture and cultural heritage.
