Hôtel d'Assézat is a Renaissance-era hôtel particulier in Toulouse, erected between 1555 and 1562 for the pastel merchant Pierre d'Assézat and largely attributed to architects Nicolas and Dominique Bachelier. Behind a monumental entrance it reveals a brick-and-stone courtyard adorned with superposed classical orders, a loggia, an ornate coursière and a prominent staircase tower, combining classical restraint and Mannerist decorative detail. Classified as a monument historique since 1914, it remains one of the best-preserved demonstrations of French Renaissance architecture in the south. The building houses the Fondation Bemberg’s art collection, spanning paintings, drawings, sculpture and decorative arts from the 15th to the 20th century, and also hosts learned societies, reflecting Toulouse’s mercantile wealth and cultural life; late 20th-century restorations have consolidated its architectural and artistic significance.
