Porta San Paolo is a prominent historical gate in Rome, part of the ancient Aurelian Walls, built in the 3rd century AD. Originally known as Porta Ostiensis, it served as a crucial entry point to the city, connecting Rome to the ancient port of Ostia. Visitors can admire its impressive travertine structure and two semicircular towers. The gate is also historically significant for its role during the battle on September 10, 1943, where it became a last defense against Nazi occupation. Today, the site houses the Museo della Via Ostiense, which showcases the history of the Ostiense road and nearby monuments. Porta San Paolo is accessible to the public, and there are no admission fees. Visitors can explore the site daily from 9 AM to 7 PM.
