Originally serving as a Customs Examining Warehouse, the building was named after the Duke of Connaught, who was the Governor General of Canada from 1911 to 1916. The building underwent significant renovations in 1971, increasing its height to eight above-ground levels and adding two basement levels. It is currently home to part of the Canada Revenue Agency's headquarters, where the Minister and Commissioner have offices. Recognized for its architectural importance, the Connaught Building was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1990 and holds Federal Heritage Building status.
