天守台 (Tenshudai) is the stone foundation of the former main keep of Edo Castle in central Tokyo, a prominent remnant of the Tokugawa shogunate’s seat of power. Erected in the early Edo period to support a multi-storey donjon that was later lost to fire and dismantling, the vast masonry platform preserves tangible evidence of feudal urban planning and architectural ambition. Incorporated today into the Imperial Palace East Gardens, the site is valued for its monumental stonework, adjacent moats and defensive walls, and archaeological finds that illuminate restoration and historical research. The location is generally open to daytime visitors as part of the gardens, with entry and seasonal schedules determined by the managing authorities. Admission is commonly free or modest; some areas include uneven stone surfaces and steps that can affect accessibility for people with limited mobility.
