Taito City Calligraphy Museum (originally founded in 1936 by Western-style painter and calligrapher Fusetsu Nakamura, 1866–1943) preserves a major collection documenting Chinese and Japanese calligraphic traditions. Assembled over forty years by Nakamura and maintained by his family until donation to Taito City in 1995 and reopening under municipal stewardship in 2000, the museum houses roughly 16,000 objects: inscribed bones and tortoise shells from the Yin period, bronze wares, gemstone artifacts, ancient mirrors, roof tiles, ceramics, seals, stone sutras and rubbings, Buddhist sutras and statues, gravestone epitaphs, stationery and historical calligraphy manuals. Its holdings include twelve Important Cultural Properties and five Art Treasures, making it significant for research, preservation and exhibition. The institution offers rotating and thematic displays, educational activities and interpretation; it operates regular public hours with an admission charge and provides accessibility accommodations for visitors with mobility or sensory needs.
